How do I change the key battery on my Ford Fiesta ?

If you have your Ford Fiesta car long enough, you’ll notice that the range of your key gets less. In the end you may need to be standing right next to the car for it to work. If this is the problem you have, you may need to change the key battery.

Ford have made this very simple and if you have some dexterity in your hands and a small screwdriver you can do this.

Step One

The most important thing is to buy a high quality CR2032 key battery for your Ford Fiesta.

Most of the key problems we see are caused by cheap batteries. It seems mad that anyone would drive a £15,000 car, with a £250 key, but put a inferior battery inside it! So spend a few pounds and get a good one.

Step Two

Remove the key blade from the remote. This is very easy. As we show on the video below, just put a flat blade screwdriver into the gap and give it a twist and the blade should pop off.

Step Three

Put the blade aside and now you need to open up the remote control. Again, ford have designed this very well so that it is easy to open. The remote splits into two halves. These are help together by two plastic tabs. Just pop the same screwdriver into where the tabs are and again an easy twist will see the remote pop open.

Step Four

As we show in the video below, the important thing is to remove the battery and then put the new one in the correct way up. There are only two ways. You must be able to read the writing on the battery once the battery is fitted.

Step Five

Close the remote, and refit the blade. If the remote is in good condition, then it should just work, you shouldn’t need to reprogramme it. However if you do, just follow this link.

How do I programme the buttons on my Ford Key?

If the remote does not work after you fit the battery and you have tried to reprogramme it, then it is possible that there is something else wrong.

Can my Ford Remote be repaired ?

Yes. If the problem is with the switches that have become loose, this video will help you.
